With three slides, enough room for more than 5,000 guests and seven ‘neighbourhoods’ – including New York’s Central Park – it is fair to say the Harmony of the Seas is bigger than your average ship.
The cruise ship is so large in fact that it measures 330ft longer than the Titanic and stands taller than the Shard and Eiffel Tower if it is stood on its stern.
It’s a wonder that the 227,000-tonne cruise ship can even float but it sets sail on its first voyage later this week – May 22.

Owned by Royal Caribbean the 1,188 ft cruise ship – the largest in the world – is worth a staggering £800 million and ‘staterooms’ start at around £900 per person for a week’s holiday.

On board you will find shopping malls, theatres and 20 swimming pools.

Amongst its showpieces is a huge slide – the tallest at sea – which stands some 150ft above sea level. .

The Ultimate Abyss is designed to look like an anglerfish with a huge dorsal fin and two spindly bodies – the record for travelling down it stands at 12.5 seconds.

In total, the huge ship can carry 8,880 people and has crew originating from 77 countries.

Its vastness is so great that guests are offered GPS-style wristbands that can track a loved one’s whereabouts.
The 16 restaurants include a Jamie’s Italian, and there are also three water slides, a 1,300-seater theatre and 3,000 cabins.

The replica of New York’s Central Park – the first ever park at sea – has more than 10,000 trees and plants and is flanked by shops including Bulgari, Cartier and Hublot.

The ship is set to sail from Southampton on Sunday on a four-day voyage to Rotterdam.

Built by STX in France, Harmony of the Seas spans 16 decks, encompass 227,000 gross registered tons, carry up to 5,479 guests in the 2,747 staterooms.
But it is dwarfed by the world’s largest ship.
The South Korean cargo vessel weighs 600,000 tonnes when fully loaded and is 1,601 feet in length.
The floating liquefied natural gas facility is owned by Shell and was launched in 2013.
